OK so I installed a new fan/heatsink combo in my new build computer system (ordered, I didn't actually build it). The fan/heatsink was awful and noisy so I replaced it. I had to remove the processor to rid it of the cement/glue. I reinstalled both CPU and new heat sink/fan and now I have no speakers at all. No sound front panel, no sound rear panel, nothing. I was using the onboard audio of the gigabyte ga-78lmt-usb3 motherboard. Before this install of these components I had installed a new MSI R7 260X video card with no issues and up until now the audio has been fine. It has not been dropped or damaged in any way. The device manager says that it is working properly and shows output meter. Nothing is muted. I checked the speakers through my phone to ensure the cable is good. There is no debris in the ports. I uninstalled, then reinstalled the driver for the onboard audio. No avail! No sound. My processor is the amd fx8320. Everything else including the new installed items work great. Any ideas? Input appreciated!

That was it. For some reason the default audio had been reset to the monitor which has no speakers. I had previously been there, but I didn't pick up on that. After you mentioned it I checked it again and noticed the model number of my monitor as the default audio device. Weird. Thanks so much, you da ninja!
