I have been having trouble with Norton 2000 so i reinstalled Win2000 but now i have 2 Win2000 on my computer. So now when i boot up it ask me if i want to install Win2000 Pro or Win2000 Pro. Ha Ha Ha!!!! Crap!!! Now i am thinking i have two options: Delete one of my operating systems(i have no clue how uninstall an operating system) or reformat my hard drive(I tried it and the OS said no can do). I want to reformat my hard drive and get rid of all the left over crap from Win98se but i don't know how. How do you format your hard drive that has your Operating System or in my case 2 OS? Then how do you partition your hard drive so that your OS is on one partition? If i am going to do i might as well do it right!!! I really appreciate it!!!
Thanks,
Dave

if you want to start from scratch, then just get a win98 boot disk and delete the partitions. then create a new one or two, however many you want. some people say you cant go back from ntfs, but you might. if that doesnt work, try an old trick with ghost. create a new partition (size doesnt matter, but leave it empty, just format) then make an image of that partition only. a blank partition shouldnt take more than a few seconds. then using a boot disk, use ghost to write that image onto the entire hard disk. should get rid of all win2k's and the blank partition.

to repartition afterwards, use fdisk. it's pretty easy. if you did what i said above, then you have one partition. start from scratch would be best i think. delete that partition, create a new one, but do not use all the space, choose a size (small if it only for the OS, i.e if you have only have a 30gb disk, then put 6-8 for win2k) then create another partition using the rest of the space. format them. then install 2k on the first one. if you do that and install everything on the 1st partition, and keep your files on the 2nd, it is a lot easer to keep things running. i make an image of the 1st partition and keep it on the 2nd. if i screw windows up or something, i just put the old image back on.

I open Win2000 disk and i didn't find any tool that would make/delete paritions and format my hard drive. Where do i look? Thanks

Set your computer to boot off the CD rom. Put the CD in there, restart your computer. GO into the installtaion program, and just follow the on screen menu. U'll see the option of the partitioning tools.

Yeah what Sparks said is the word. You gotta think if Windows 2000 creates it, it can also takeith away. Rule of thumb. Just boot with the CD like sparks said it will come to a menu, Install Win2k, Repair a Win2k installation, etc. Just click on Install Win2k. In the next menu will be the partition utilities. Highlight the main partition and select the option to delete it will ask for verification a few times. How do I know you ask? Well I took off my NTFS partition and reformatted with FAT32 and re-installed my Windows 98SE because of the Game problems I was having. Diamond MM would not get their drivers certified with microsoft and they have crappy drivers for Win2k. Anyway I'm going to Duel-Boot for my solution just have to save 26$ for the Boot Managing Software I found on the net. Shareware full version software with a 30 day kill prog. Its called BootIT NG. Anyone else use that software? I used to to convert my FAT partition to FAT32 and resize to half my hard-drive. No Data Loss. It also works with NTFS ;-).

Let me get this straight. When you ---> INSTALL <--- Win2k on your HDD from boot-up of Win2k CD-ROM, it doesn't ask you at any point and time which partition would you like to install Windows 2000 to???? Also it says Delete Selected Partition (that means Highlighted). Don't mean to sound rude or anything but put on your glasses and look again. ;-) You just can't browse the CD to look for a Partition editor (because they use crafty names an I don't know the particular file names.), why not just run it from the Installation disk. It doesn't mean you have to install the OS you can by-pass that. *grin*
