i recently reinstalled XP sp3 on a Dell D430 - the wireless is working fine, however i can not get the wire to connect. in device manager there is the caution n the Ethernet device. The network adapter is OK. in the system info unde network adapter its listed as a 1394 Net adapter . when if ipconfig and turn the wireless off I get a Media disonnected. if I try and repain in network connections i get the error TCI/IP is not enabled for this connection and it;s listed as the 1394 connection adapter so it's like it is not recognizing the card the orange light is lite on the card but no flashing- I;ve tried many solutions and still can not get it to work. Wireless is OK . i tested the cable with another lap top and its fine.

The 1394 entry refers to the Firewire adapter which is used for video capture from a movie camera, amongst other things. It is not the network adapter to which you attach an ethernet cable for internet access.

You can try re-installing the driver from Dell's website, but if that doesn't help it's may be that the network adapter has failed.
