Hi Experts!

My friend has a Toshiba Satellite C855-S5190 laptop with him which came with Win 8 pre-installed. And it was upgraded to Win 10 officially some months back. Now we wanted to install Win7. Tried inserting windows 7 disc but it was not detecting the disc after switching on the laptop and directly enters into Win 10. So what I have done here is, I have removed the HDD from laptop and formatted it completely by connecting to another Laptop thinking that after this format it might detect the cd while booting up(I know this is a very stupid act). Now I have put the HDD back into the Toshiba laptop and tried to boot up the Win 7 disc. But later I realized that this laptop doesn't have CD/DVD booting option in the boot menu. Hence tried to install Win7 via a USB which did not work either. Its saying "Windows is loading files" and later it displays a message saying"Windows filed to start. A recent software or Hardware change might be the cause" and it not moving from there. Now I am fully aware that I am totally ducked up since I have formatted my HDD. Can anyone please help me what to do now?

I have few questions here.

1. Why is that error while installing Win7?
2. Does this laptop supports Win7?
3. How to get rid of that error and continue installing the OS.

Hi

You needto get into the bios or uefi
Which would have been easier before you removed win 10

There are a number of bios features which work with win 8 or 10 but not 7

Eg secure boot off for 7
Fast startup and shutdown off for 7
which make it difficult to get into the bios or F8 safe mode or select boot options (F11 or F12)

Then you can boot from win 7 (dvd or usb)
32 or 64 version of Windows?
if only 2GB ram 32 bit/ 3 GB ram or more use 64 bit

Did you just format the c: Drive or remove all partitions on drive first
There is probably still a hiden partition with win 8 recovery files

Persionally i would put win 10 back on the hard disk unless Toshiba has a full set of win 7 device drivers available on its support web site

These seem to be available

Solution

actually all i think that has to be done is disable secure boot in the BIOS for it to work. with some computers with a UEFI BIOS this has to be disabled to install older operating systems like windows 7

Thanks much I have somehow figured it out by changing the ufei options some days back.
