Trying to reinstall Yosemite on a friends Mac, figured it'd be easy stuff. Got a download for 10.10.2 Yosemite, then used my Windows 10 with CMD, and made the drive bootable for Mac with Diskpart, afterwards I tried to use TransMac to restore the .dmg file of the 10.10.2 Yosemite.

I plugged the USB into the Mac, and attempted to reinstall it. At first it began going well, but soon stopped while showing the white circle with a cross through it instead.

Am I missing anything, or could this Lexar USB be the cause of failure?

I got it to boot to usb correctly, but would constantly go to white circle with line through it. I tired using disk utility to restore the usb drive to the hard drive in order to install the OSX base system, and it's been stuck on 16 minutes left all night.

Which Macbook is it?

Download the latest Mac os sierra. I know its not the OS, but its better to use the latest OS for better performance, new features and security. Make a clean USB bootloader using a proper file.

Good Luck.:) Peace.

Well I think I got closer, but now i've got another error when trying to wipe the drive to start over. "Disk erase failed, couldnt unmount disk."

Nevermind, after a few restarts that error went away, weird.

I put the installer for El Capitan onto the Disk to attempt to install that, and use recovery to install it, but now it's running into an error, and is unable to install it. I've got Sierra and Maverick downloading, the latter in case this unit is older than previously thought.

Just delete the OS file from the application folder and then download a fresh file from App store. Use that file to install.

Good Luck.:) Peace.

I don't think you can download Mac OS from a windows PC. Try from someone who is having a Mac. You are going to install it on a Macbook right? Try using the same Mac.

Good Luck.:) Peace.

He's the only one I know who has a mac, lol, but I am starting to think all these installers I've been downloading are not correct in some way, tried Yosemite, El Capitan, and just tried Maverick, and each one when attempting to boot through them ends up ion the white circle cross sign.

Since he is having a Macbook Pro 2013, when he is into the App store he will see Mac OS sierra download option. Download it from app store without and interruptions on the WiFi network and then use that file and try installing. its better to install Mac OS sierra than the older versions of Mac OS.

Follow the below link to create bootable USB drive:

Good Luck.:) Peace.

It seemed to be unable to perform internet recovery, so I was never able to attempt it. I was going to now try formatting the drive to attempt from scratch, but my USBs all continue to load into a prohibitory sign, so perhaps my downloads are all corrupt and should get an official one like the user above had stated.

I attempted to create a drive for a copy of sierra which I downloaded, and this one won't even be seen on boot.

IT doesnt look as if it's able to boot from USB at all anymore, but sees all my CDs I put in.

Edit: nvm screwed up on a couple of the installers. Got El Capitan to get almost finished, but prohibitory sign still came up. Trying to find a friend who has a working mac.

Atm making a Sierra Bootable Drive using Transmac

Edit: Looks like the Sierra I had downloaded, and attempted to set up aty bootable with transmac is not fully functional as not even Transmac is able to view the files contained in it

Try creating a bootable USB using Disk Creator or Diskmaker X using a proper OS file downloaded from the App store or else it will fail again:

Or here is video tutorials for you:

Good Luck.:) Peace.

If you see a circle with a slash symbol instead of the Apple logo, it means your Mac couldn't find a valid System Folder to start up from.

Try these steps:
1. Turn on or restart your Mac.
2. Immediately press and hold the Option key. After a few seconds, the Startup Manager appears. If you don't see the volume you want to use, wait a few moments for Startup Manager to finish scanning connected drives.
3. Use your mouse or trackpad, or left and right arrow keys to select the volume you want to use.
4. Double-click or press the Return key to start up your Mac from the volume you selected.

Good Luck.:) Peace.

Yea I do all that, it's after choosing the Volume in this case my flash drive, and attempts to boot from it is when it gives the circle with slash sign. I was even able to install windows 7 on this damn Mac, why must apple be so crazy? This would never had been a problem if Yosemite was still available on the app store, but nooooo, they want to decommission old Macs in order to force users to purchase new ones. I'm starting to get real angry at this dang thing, srry.

Check for any of your friend who is running Yosemite. You can use the file from them. But i'm sure that you can install mac os sierra on Macbook 2013 easily. Did you try Diskmaker X?

Good Luck.:) Peace.
