Im planning to buy a new hard drive since the one I have currently barely works.. So how do I get the win8/10 from my current hard drive to the new one? If it is possible.

Solution
Do you want to move everything from your old hard drive to your new one or just windows? If you want everything you can simply clone your old drive to your new drive and it moves EVERYTHING. If you just want to move windows it'd be better to do a fresh install of windows on the new drive if you still have your Windows key

Oh Im sorry I didnt mention that, what I want to do is get a fresh install of windows on the new hard drive.

Don't need key anymore, if he upgraded to win 10 from win 7/8 on that PC he has a digital entitlement to win 10 and as soon as he has win 10 installed it will reactivate itself

Download win 10 from here: Win 10 media creation tool
change boot order to match either DVD or USB
follow this: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/1950-windows-10-clean-install.html

when you get to stage asking for licence, click "I don't have a key" and as I said, win 10 will activate itself

Solution

Thats what i did before but microsoft won't officially activate your windows and basically you'd only have 30 days i believe and then you'd need to enter your key...i had to pay 40 dollars for a new one since mine was lost

So lets say im about to install windows on the new drive, ive followed along the guide and I got win10 on a USB. do I just leave my old hard drive unplugged and only have the new one plugged in along with the USB?

(im not very familiar with this stuff so please dont be to harsh)

If it had been actually upgraded and activated, you do not need to enter a license key if you are reinstalling on the same system.

How do I reinstall Windows 10 on my PC?
After you upgrade to Windows 10, you can reinstall or do a clean installation on the same device. You won't need a product key to reactivate Windows 10 on the same hardware. For more info on how to create your own Windows 10 installation media, see the Microsoft software download website.

Yes, that is correct.

Thanks, a lot.
