I am reinstalling windows 10 on my computer. I have many game saves that I would like to be able to keep.

What is the best/most efficient way to backup the save files?

I do not mind reinstalling the games themselves. I just want to keep my saves. Suggestions?

Thanks.

steam saves your games in the cloud. you don't have to worry about it. simply reinstall the games and you will be where you left off.

same thing happens if you install on multiple computers with the same account info. you'll always be up to date on the save no matter what pc you log into it with since it is in the cloud and not pc specific.

nice little feature for sure :)

If it is just Steam games, save the Steamapps folder elsewhere. The whole thing.
After the OS reinstall and you reinstall the Steam client, move that Steamapps folder back.

Some games save data outside of the steamapps folder, though.

Then you need to find those.

Most of the games I play save games in the "Documents" folder of your profile (C:\Users\<your name here>\Documents). Backing up Documents and your Steam folder should preserve the vast majority of your saves. It would take a lot of digging to find every single location.

Steam starts deleting save files in the cloud when you get 3 or 4 in a row. If you want to save all the ones kept local which means your computer, and you don't manually save them, you need to use something like Microsoft One Drive or Google Drive. Set one of these (I prefer Google Drive) up on your computer and automatically save it to the cloud. Depending on the file size this is free, and once your set up again you sign back in and sync everything back up.
