Im replacing my hdd completely without needing the files. I plan to instal the os with an iso file in a usb drive, and im wondering if i can activate windows 10 afterwards with a windows 7 home basic product key i have unused. The thing im concerned is if my system will turn to 32bit or not.

Any help is appreciated

For your current and new desktop license, Read and do this before you change any parts:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/20530/windows-10-reactivating-after-hardware-change
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-3164428/windows-build-1607-activation.html

Thats for the license.

Your new system really needs a clean install, rather than trying to simply migrate the OS to the new system.
There is no guarantee of it actually booting up in the new hardware.

So, you've installed a clean OS in the new PC, and transfered the license.
This leave your old PC with no license.

Your Win 7 Home license might work to activate that.
The official upgrade period ran out long ago, but supposedly it still works. Try it and see what...

Is it currently Win 10?

Assuming your Win 10 is valid and already activated, you don't need your old WIn 7 license. Or a WIn 10 license key.

Just do a clean install. The system details are already stored at the mothership...a 'digital license'.
Install, and it will activate itself.

This current desktop im using is running a windows 10 os that was upgraded previously from windows 7 home pro which i own the product key to. I plan to build a whole new desktop and migrate my current os into the new hdd excluding all the files. This leaves the old desktop that im going to give to my family, so i plan to buy a new hdd since mine is already 8 years old and install windows 10 into the completely new and empty hdd using iso. But since i migrated my os to my new deskop along with the digital license, instaling with just the iso will leave it unactivated right? So i just so happen to have a home basic lying there which im wondering would work to activate it.

But I strongly recommend a clean install of Win 10 in the new PC. Save a lot of headaches.
