A few years ago I bought a used HP Pavilion 483.fr for my father to use for email and surfing .. it only had 1mb RAM so always chugged a bit - but it was ok - until he decided to install Vista to replace XP (don't ask!) ... which of course failed. Certainly not enough RAM and it didn't like his Vista CD when it came to putting the Product Key in ... so he humbly asked me to sort it. There are no CDs with the HP so I was back to basics.
I decided the only way was to go back to XP Pro but first I put the RAM up to 2mb to give it a fighting chance. It failed for various reasons to go back to XP so I decided to reinstall from scratch (there was nothing important on the hard drive) - so I formatted the hard drive and installed XP Pro. Did endless XP updates .. well, 91 to be precise.
It then only would display 640x480 and 16 colours .. clearly a driver problem .. so I hopped over to the HP site and got to the right page but it seems there is nowhere to download the drivers and install them myself, I have to install some HP software which would scan the PC and tell me what I needed .. so far so good, except the HP software refuses to install.
HP Support Solutions Framework gives me an error in installation. "Error occurred during the installation of assembly "HP.ActiveCheckLocalMode.ServiceFacade,Version-"1.1.0.0" Public Key Token blah blah, Culture="blah blah""
Hours of googling for solutions has got me nowhere ...
I can't believe that this is proving so difficult to sort.
