Sorry about the idiocy here, but I must have missed something over the years. I have an asus mobo, with 4 paired RAM slots. I have 2 x 4G making a total of 8G. If I put two more 4G strips in the other slots, will I have a total of 16G? Likewise, if I put in 2 x 8G, would I have 24G? Embarassingly yours...

Solution
Maybe. You have to look at the specs of your motherboard and determine what the maximum supported RAM is. Might be 16GB might be 32GB. If it is 32GB then putting 8GB DIMMs in two slots would give you 24GB if the four DIMMs play nicely together. They might not play nicely and you might end up taking the smaller ones out and dropping back to 16GB.
