Remote Assistance Error

I am trying to accept a remote assistance request however, when I click to
open the call I receive the error "Remote Assistance failed, please try
again." I also notice that the header bar stated "Remote Assistance -- Web
Page Di...

I have opened up all required ports. I can send a remote assistance and
receive a remote assistance however, I can not open one up and run it upon
request without the above error.

I would appreciate any and all information that would help me in my quest to
rid my computer of this problem.

Is the person requesting help behind a NAT router?

Please describe more of the connectivity arrangements between your PC and
the PC requesting help.

I am using a Linksys WRT54G router. The individual sending the request is
behind a NAT and has enabled the UPnP. I found that when I open the file up
I get the error message right away when it starts to intitiate. I am sure
that it is something simple and something that I am overlooking.

The problem is almost certainly at the requester's end, not yours.

Some things to check at the requester's end (not your end):
- what is the make and model of NAT router?
- what is the firmware level in that router?
- is he connected via DSL or cable?
- if DSL, is the DSL modem also behaving as a NAT router (i.e. double-NAT),
or is the DSL modem in bridge mode?
- if he connects to the configuration pages of his NAT router, and looks at
its current status, what does it report its WAN IP address to be?

If the request is being sent by e-mail, please open the received request
file in Notepad, and copy-and-paste the entire content of the file into a
follow-up in this thread.

I have a similar problem. When someone sends me a request for
assistance, I get the same "Remote assistance failed" message
IMMEDIATELY. I was also behind a linksys router which I had all the
ports opened. It had worked previously. Nevertheless, I removed my PC
from behind the router and tested it directly connected to the Internet
with a routable IP, and the results did not change. I still get the
failed message when trying to accept a remote assistance invite.
However, I can send a request for assistance myself, and the other
party can take control of my PC no problem.

Any ideas? I have removed and re-installed SP2. I have tried accepting
invites via windows messenger and the email invites.

getting frustrated. Anyone else who has had this problem, and found the
solution, please post or email to me at alpha@growlies.com .

The problem is most likely at the novice's end (the end requesting
assistance), not at yours. There is nothing you can do at your end to fix
this. Maybe they are behind a NAT router, or maybe they have a firewall.
You need to investigate what the network setup is at their end.
