Remote Management of a cascaded router

I have access to the web GUI management of my "main" router that's connected to my WAN. However, I'd like to be able to log into my secondary router that's connected to the main router (main LAN to secondary WAN). I've got the Web GUI management port enabled on both routers using different ports.

I'm having trouble logging into the secondary router. I'm using the wan IP and the open port on the secondary router to attempt to log in. example: xxx.xxx.xx.xxx:8080

Thoughts?

Putting a second router in does not prevent the guest wireless from having access to the main network. You may prevent simple sharing but they can access by ip address all you machines on the main network. You need to prevent this with firewall rules in the second router.

You problem with access likely is related to restriction in the second router that prevent admin from the ip on the wan port. It is generally a bad idea to admin your router from the internet and the second router does not know that its wan ip is just you main network. You may be able to disable this restriction.

If you are really admin the device from the internet you are taking a big risk because the traffic is not encrypted on most routers.
You should have main LAN to secondary LAN and DHCP disabled on secondary, otherwise you're operating two subnets (unless you have some reason for this configuration).

You'll need to set the secondary LAN IP to one that won't conflict with main DHCP range, and use that to access settings.

The secondary runs the guest wi-fi at a hotel, and the primary runs the hotel's front desk PC's. So I need them segregated.

I think I'll either pay for a second static IP or hook a PC into the secondary router and remote connect to it when I need to monitor the 2nd router.
