Removable Hard Drive Issue

Hi Folks,

I was wondering if anyone has seen this kind of thing before:

We've recently upgraded one of our product lines from 98 to XP.
We use a removable hard drive loaded with an image of our system.
I've rolled out about 70 systems with no problem, except on one
unit. (All of the systems have (purportedly) identical hardware,
with one (possible) exception: the removable hard drive, which is
the only change, in fact, from the 98 system has possibly been modified.,
althought the vendor says it hasn't. Of the 70 systems, 60 are from
our first "batch" of drives; the last 10 are (a) different (color). The
one that is giving me a problem is one of these recent.

I guess my questions are these - what constitutes a difference of hardware
as far as an image is concerned ?

accidentally did not finish

my other question is this:

has anybody seen anything like this before:

the problem system randomly brings up the
"Windows Advanced Options Menu" and
then sometimes it proceeds, sometimes it doesn't
(when it does the system functions normally)

any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

thanks
