I have a Linksys SRW2024 switch which has the loudest fan ever! I've used it for years and it works without error.

The unit has NEVER heated up one bit. It is in SOHO use so not all of the ports are used. Only about 10 total.

Is it safe to crack it open, analyze what that fan running at 10 million RPM is cooling, and either replace it with something bigger (a 120mm fan mounted on a square hole, that I make, in the units top case metal and sucking out air upwards) or even just disable the darn fan?

Thanks.

With your light duty use you may be able to either use no fan or a slower quieter fan, I would open it up and see what is in there and how much ventilation space it has available. It sounds like it has a high speed Delta, I have one (in the closet) that is over 60db.
