Remove lnk from windows vista desktop shortcut icons

Hello,
When i receive a file from Skype, i realize that my desktop shortcut files shows LNK. Example: Skype.lnk, internet explorer.lnk
Other than that the symbols also changed to internet not the original symbols.Hope u can help me to solve this problem...

sounds that your making shortcuts to the files you are getting instead of actually downloading them to your deskop.

Always right click the file and save Target as..
*be sure to check to see what the file type says so you will know what your downloading* HTML or HTM is a website MP3 AVi or whatever is music and video files types TXT are text files Ink or lnk or shortuts to files not the files themselves.
