remove user folder from desktop?

Hello: what are the consequences of removing the user folder from the desktop? I have a concern that if I do that, the actual folder will be deleted. The user folder as it appears on the desktop, does not appear to be a shortcut. R mouse click on folder does not show properties on dropdown list. Thank you.

Don't delete the user folder, configure Windows not to display the folder on your desktop. Here's how :-
Step 1> Right click on an empty place in desktop and click "PERSONALIZE".
Step 2> On the window that appears, look at the LEFT hand side, the SECOND option from top would read "CHANGE DESKTOP ICONS", click on it.
Step 3> On the window that appears, the second option would read "USER'S FILES", uncheck the box beside it.
Step 4> Click OK and exit out of the personalization window.

If you want the User folder back, follow the above steps again, and this time check the box beside "User's Files".
