Removed HDD and BIOS runs BUT.....

Hello,
Bios wouldnt work. So I read on the site to unplugg the HDD, I ran the setup and all appears to be good. Tried to re-plug the Sata in a different slot, but I'm back to a frozen splash screen. Does this mean the HDD is toast? If so, how do I recover the drive? the drive is a year old.

Try another cable for both the SATA and the Power cable to the drive. If it still does the same, try the drive on another computer.

To recover the drive if the electronics are toast it will probably cost you a lot of money. if you really think it is worth it then just google "data recovery" and you will find lots of companies that do so. If you were electronic minded you could try to find the exact model and firmware board on eBay and try to replace it yourself. But chances of success are very slim.

It's not the first time I've seen that happen. It sounds like the hard drive might have died. If so, it's probably either a firmware or electrical fault with the drive. The Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 drives are infamous for their sudden deaths due to buggy firmware for example.

I would be weary of replacing the PCB if the drive has indeed died. Some models of hard drives will not accept replacement PCBs, even when they come from the exact model and have the same firmware. You may need to research this first to see if doing this is effective before you try it.
