My screen was leaking really bad on my Dell 7995 laptop. So I removed it I disconnected the LCD plug from the motherboard…as well as the camera, microphone and WiFi adapter. I have an external 27” monitor that I was going to keep connected through HDMI. i finished everything and it won’t power up. I later read that you need to keep the internal connection in tact or it won’t fire up. Is this true? It must have to recognize the video signal to power up? Thank you for any input. Joe

NOPE! NOPE! NOPE! I really did not want to take this laptop apart again after hearing from an official Dell tech agent that it will not power up because it needs to complete the circuit with the LCD monitor and communicate that way. I guess I understand when I extend, duplicate, turn either display 1 or display 2 on or off. I went thru the motions. I had a power on/ off switch that I never used. I replaced it and whala! I was able to “power the Dell 7995 after removing the screen and also remove all the connections that went to the motherboard. LCD, camera, microphone, and the WiFi antenna and wi-fi circuit board. So it was my power switch. The little clip was broken and wound not stay down. I also lost the touchpad..I don’t care Inuse a mouse anyway. I hope this helps anyone out there that has been told otherwise on this particular Dell model.
