RivenXX :
So I painted my EVGA 1080 FTW with a blue engine enamel on the expansion slots metal bracket piece that gets screwed in place after you set your gpu in. And now I want to take that paint off but I'm not quite sure how to do that yet. I've read many people use spray oven cleaner but I'm not sure if that'll leave a stain or residue on the metal piece afterwards or if it'll work at all. Any suggestions?
Oven cleaner is a strait acid that etches the surface horribly. It will ruin the piece unless you intend on repainting it, in which case it would provide a good substrate for the new coat of paint to adhere to. If any gets on a capacitor, the PCB, or even a trace - I'd wager it would oxidize to a point of non functioning near instantly.
It is called enamel but i doubt it really is - it is probably just a spray paint capable of withstanding some heat. Real enamels are actually glass - and a true enamel would be immune to oven cleaner too. I would think the only way to remove a true enamel would be to physically remove it using a mechanical means (sanding).
Places where you can see a true enamel and how strong they are would be like your oven or washing machine - that white is super hard to scratch, resists all forms of cleaners, won't stain, and really can only be chipped off. True enamel is basically glass.
Why did you paint a GTX 1080
🙁 haha
