Question Removing motherboard

Is it safe to just keep the cpu on the motherboard because all I want to do is replace my current heatsink, but im not sure if I should take out the cpu or not. I also don't have a safe space to keep the cpu, can you give me some ideas on where to keep the cpu (Don't have the box for it).

Yes, I think that would be safe, as long as the CPU is seated properly in the socket. If you are just replacing the heatsink, then there is no point in removing the CPU as well from the socket, IMO. Less chances of getting any bent pins as well.

Be sure you clean the thermal paste off and reapply before installing the new heatsink. You'll need 90% or higher isopropyl alcohol and some shop towel or coffee filters to clean the paste off.
