Would I loose any data if I remove both RAID 1 disks, reinstalled my NAS OS and then put them back in ?
I'm using two 2TB disks in RAID 1 with a LaCie Big 5 Pro NAS.

Of course I can't make you any guarantees since I don't know exactly how your array is configured, or what is what with your hardware, not to mention whether or not it's a hardware or software RAID array, but with the drives removed, it should not affect any of the data on the drives. The only real question I see is whether or not the reinstalled OS recognizes the array or if you'll have to reinstall drivers for the array to be recognized.

It may even be a configuration where the storage controller on your hard drive automatically either detects or is in fact a RAID controller in which case it's likely nothing further will need to be done.

Yes the disks are only used for storage. As for the RAID drivers I not quit sure what those are.
I'm having problems with the NAS device and the LaCie tech proposed I reinstall the OS on the device, but this would erase any disks attached. I thought could simply remove the disks reinstall the OS, reinsert the disks and the OS would recognize the RAID array. I'm pretty novice at this and LaCie support is not very helpful.

Cheers
