Removing stock cooler from Gainward GeForce GTX 285?

Positing issues, sorry 🙁 It would not let me edit above so here is my question:

I just bought a Gainward GeForce GTX 285 and I am having trouble removing the front plate memory cooler. The screws came off, but the goo seems baked solid. I do not want to force it, should I soak it in alcohol or something?
