Removing the mobo-shield backplate from the computer - dangerous?

While building my first PC, I noticed that the mobo and it's ports cannot correctly fit in the shield plastic backplate that is placed over the large hole in the back of the case. It's essentially too low, or some of those backplate's pins are pushing it too hard.

How dangerous would it be to remove the plastic backplate from the case? My fears are that dust could get in (is this critical?) or that some other damage could occur (something to do with air flow?)

How dangerous is to leave it on? My main concern here is that it's damaging the mobo by pushing it and that I should quickly disassemble my PC and remove it.

The back plate should not be too high or the motherboard too low. Make sure you have the standoffs installed between your motherboard tray and the motherboard itself.

All in all, not having the back plate installed is not too much of an issue. It will allow for a lot more dust to accumulate. The only real issue is should any critters decide to make your CPU a home (spiders, mice, etc...).

make sure the plate is installed with the right side up and in. also some cases and plates you need to use a rubber hammer some times to tap the plate in till it clicks. with asus mb they have very thick pads and sometime it helps to have someone push the mb in as your screwing the mb down.

I definitely do have standoffs, maybe just not the appropriate ones...

I'm pretty sure that the plate is oriented correctly.

And I do have an ASUS motherboard, but I don't understand that part of your post... What pads are thick? And where and how should the person be pushing the mobo while I'm screwing it down...? Not sure what you mean by that

It's not a huge deal to leave the IO shield out completely. But, the dimensions of those parts (motherboard, IO shield, and case opening) are tightly standardized - they really should fit together, if they don't something is wrong. And, as smorizio suggested, sometimes it takes more pressure to align the parts than you might expect.

Yeah most likely I got the wrong standoffs. I don't know which ones I need though so I'm just probably gonna remove the IO shield.
