Removing Windows 7 from old PC and installing on new one

I have a Windows 7 ultimate disc that I bought through the bookstore while in college. It says LICENSED FOR USE ONLY BY STUDENTS AND FACULTY. Not for retail or OEM Distribution. Not for resale.

I can provide photos if necessary.

I looked at Microsoft but I can't seem to find my answer on their site.

If I format the old PC that this was installed on thus removing it, then, install it on a new computer, would activating it on the new computer invalidate it like it would if it were OEM?

Or, as long as there is only one computer using it at a time, would it work fine?

It appears to be distributed by a company called Systems Student Media.

Don't want to mess up my CD key and couldn't find anything about this particular University edition.

I will call MS if I absolutely have to, but I've waited for over an hour on hold with them before so I'm trying to avoid that.

Thanks.

Hi,

Since you bought it leagaly when you where in college, it should still be fine for you to use. This notice is mainly for resellers.
I don't think their is a problem to install it unless it in use on another computer.

Disagree, and I used to work for a U IT department. The IT department doesn't get into licensing and what the student software buy and stuff. The software is simply bought from the bookstore because MS has a student discount program, but otherwise the school's bookstore is just another retail outlet, no intervention from IT, nothing.

OP, ideally, you want to UN-REGISTER from the old PC, hit the HELP button on how to exactly do that as it seems to be different from versions, then as long as you have the original install media and a license#, u should be able to install and register it at the new. If it complaints during re-reg and says to call a phone#, do that, it will take you through a lengthy procedure, be patience, when asked how many PC, you say ONE.
