So my friend wants to upgrade his system (i3-4160, 8GB ram, gtx 950)
My friend wants to do some form of video rendering, light gaming, Space Engine V2, and a combination of Folding@Home, GPUGrid, and World Community grid, with the focus on the latter. He has a budget of $2500 CAD. He will be reusing his SP550 240GB from his current build as well as having a key for Windows 10 Pro. He also bought the Corsair 380T already ($180) which counts towards the $2500 Total. Also needs a 4k IPS display.
I know that the research stuff is more GPU intensive so obviously getting a 1080 or next-gen counterpart would be the best option. But say he was using Premiere Pro, how much difference would a 6500 + 1080 of ram compare to a 6700k @4.4Ghz + 1070?
I am personally planning upgrading from my 6500 to a 7700k or Zen 4 or 8 core when they release. If Both the researching stuff and Premiere pro does better with the i5/1080 combo I
could probably sell my system components to him while upgrading my own. But either way, I will be upgrading. Which itself will be probably asked in another thread. If this combo is better I will plan on selling him the following for $400 CAD: 6500 +NH-L9i w/ NF-A9 PWM + MSI H110 Pro AC
Edit: Added in Space Engine V2 as an app he is planning on using
Edit #2: Was too difficult to read for some so I took out stuff.
