hello, I'm learning networking through an ebook, they provided there a server to learn using it, but because this ebook is quiet old the server is not responding anymore..
therefore instead of stopping I would like to rent a cheap server something which won't require much data and i'll be able to run applications through it..
(It's supposted to host a chat room, or something like it)
Any ideas?, many servers today cost around 10$ a month and give about 20giga or even more, and I don't need that much, and don't need the server for so long, max a month.. if anybody knows a cheap or even free I'd appreciate it.
Personally I do not quiet understand it, and would like some assitance, maybe I don't need to rent anthing..

Solution
if you have access to a powerful enough (4 cores or more) computer you can use a virtual server in either vmware or virtualbox. I am not the expert here but google and youtube are handy for this type of thing. if you have the bandwidth needed this is the only free solution I know

Thank you, will take that into account, I just found about 000webhosting, it seems like they allow free hosting for a 1giga of storage and 10000 bandwidth, think it'll suit my needs?

nevermind, It seems that just the fact it doesn't respond to pinging doesn't mean the server is dead..
seems like the server is up, and I tried to run code on it and it responded.
Thanks for the help
