Hello, this is my first post to the forums so please bear with me
(PC components will be at the end of the post for reference)
I took my desktop computer into a repair store to be diagnosed, because it wouldn't display graphics either through the motherboard or the graphics card. The store recommended that I replace the motherboard, which I did. This did not fix the issue. At the moment, I'm pretty sure that the issue is the power supply. I calculated the max power draw of my system through an online calculator, the power usage was about 600 watts. My current power supply is only 450 watts. This computer, which I bought pre-built, has internal cable routing underneath a metal plate (it's riveted down so I can't easily access the cables underneath and the plastic connectors at the end of the cords don't fit under the plate). I would like some advice before I go crazy with my scissors and cut up the power cords. Thank you for your help!!
Question 1: Is my assumption correct that I need a new power supply?
Question 2: If I do need a new power supply, is it safe to cut the ends off the cords(assuming I won't need to use that power supply again)
CPU: i7-6700k
GPU: AMD Radeon rx-480
PSU: non-branded 450watt
Motherboard: ROG Maximus VIII Ranger
Storage:
-128gb SSD
-1Tb, 7200rpm hard drive
CD/DVD read/write drive
(Hopefully this is enough information)
Thanks again!!
