Vista upadtes not working.
MS advised a number of steps. None worked.
They advise running "Repair your compuetr" from DVD but I cannot find how to boot fromDVD.
Any help, please?

To boot from the DVD you need to go into the BIOS and change the Boot priority to include the DVD higher in the chain than the HDD (it goes down the list to decide what to boot from until it reaches a device that it can boot from so DVD has to be before HDD or it will not ever get to the DVD drive) -- after changing it then save the changes and as it boots you will get a "Press any Key to boot from DVD" prompt at which time just press a key and it will boot from the DVD drive. (NOTE: have the proper DVD in the drive before you boot or it will continue to the HDD since there is no DVD in the drive))

Thanks.
I managed to boot from disc but computer starts at random and no MS updates are accepted.

They take ages to "configure" then message "re-instating".

Regards.

Go into C:\Windows\Software Distribution and empty the Event Cache folder then do the same to the Downloads folder. Restart the system and any important updates should wander in when they're ready, so long as your settings allow. To make sure you get them all, you could go to the M$ site manually through Control Panel>Windows Updates.
