Just for fun... I'm trying to resurrect an old Fostex DMT-8 abandoned by my son. When powered on it gives a 'no disk' message. I tried testing the HD on my Linux box from an external USB enclosure, and it does appear dead.
I've ordered a cheap ($20) HD as a replacement. It'll be about 20 times the size of the Quantum Fireball its replacing, but nobody makes 1GB HDs any more. The replacement HD has the old Parallel ATA connector, so it should be compatible there. My questions are...
1. Will it need formatting (probably) and what format will be required, NTFS, old FAT32, or something proprietary???
2. Will it need to have some sort of OS loaded onto it? (In which case I may just be stuck with a spare HD.)
Any help is appreciated.
