So here is the problem. I have a 3 year old (purchased 3 yrs ago and a bit) HP P7-1205. The actual computer works well for what I want it to, except the PCIE x16 socket. More specifically, I can put a pcie x16 nvidia card in upto the 600 series but the motherboard does not recognize any GPU from the 700 series and newer. (boots to options screen and freezes).
From what I have found out, this is because the bios on the CARMEL 2 motherboard is out of date (even the newest bios is out of date, as HP DOES NOT PROVIDE ANY SUPPORT FOR ITS PRODUCTS after the warranty period. Basically, they say replace the PC every time because a 4 year old machine is beyond it's life expectancy.
So here is the actual question. Where can i get a 3rd party bios for the HP bios or will I have to replace the entire motherboard the next time I need a GPU (video card) upgrade. I purchased a used gtx580 which should do me for a couple years, but eventually I am going to need a better card. The 8 gigs of ram and 3.0ghz quad core (i5) processor is plenty for me so i will not NEED to replace the entire computer for about another 8 years.
Side note... If any of you have a business and can write off computers as a tax deduction, HP is the way to go. After 4 years, they are depreciated down to 0 value. If you are a gamer or home user, stay totally away from HP!!!!
