Hello,

I've get a WD Caviar SE 200GB drive.

It is in an external case. The drive spins but I get a I/O error when my computer tried to read the drive.

I'm hoping to recover some files off the drive by
replacing the circuit board.

Can I just use another WD Caviar SE 200GB?

Can I use any WD controller?

Thanks,

Nick

first take the drive out of the case and hook it to the computer and see if it works, if it's dead, you can(sometimes) use the circut board from the same make and model drive, do not atempt to use any WD board with the drive, but don't be suprised of the external box is bad
