Hi Guys,

Should I replace my HDD with SSD, or replace HDD with SSD and keep HDD in hard drive caddy?

Please keep in mind this is for uni/b], so I need it to be as light as possible, but I'm not sure if it's worth the sacrifice. My laptop currently weighs about 2.20kg, and the SSD I'm about to install is a Samsung 840 Series 120GB.

Thanks.

my suggestion is to get a DVD/SSD adaptor tray. like so. Example only not an endorsement for product.
https://www.amazon.com/ZXUY-Unibody-Universal-DVD-ROM-Replacement/dp/B0058AH2US%3FSubscriptionId%3DAKIAILSHYYTFIVPWUY6Q%26tag%3Dduckduckgo-d-20%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D2025%26creative%3D165953%26creativeASIN%3DB0058AH2US
with this you can remove the DVD-ROM and put the SSD or the HDD into the DVD's slot. make sure you get a tray that is the right height. 12mm, 9mm or 7mm.
you can then get an external usb enclosure for the DVD and turn that in to an on demand device, only plug in when needed (IMHO the optical drive will live longer this way)
Again not an endorsement example only...

Laptop is a Toshiba Satellite L50-B02R

It does have a DVD-ROM tray, and I don't really need an external drive, however, I'm fine with having one.

doing this will give you the best of both, I doubt the DVD gets heavy use, and the enclosure will keep it viable.
