HI
I have got hold of a identical motherboard to replace for a old computer that wount post.

Its running vista OEM. Spoke to Microsoft who said they won't help regarding authentication refered me back to medion the comp manufacturer. They also don't help coz its Vista.

So will I be able to install my original OS which is OEM on the identical replacement motherboard?
If I buy Win7 will my otherboard and hardware be compatable with it?
What about drivers and Windows7 with the hardware I have?

Many Thanks

(sorry for long reply time, been away over the weekend!)

Ok, so:

1) Yes, your current PC meets the system requirments for Windows 7, so should be able to run it perfectly

2) Windows 7 supports Windows Media Center (and its TV feature) and as such, with your current TV card you should be able to watch and record TV (It says on Medions website that they have win7 drivers for that card).

2b) Same as above
An OEM license binds itself to the first motherboard you install it on (well, the HDD/SSD connected to it). If you change your motherboard, your license will not carry over and will be void.

However, if you replace your motherboard with the exact same make+model, the key will recognise it and work fine :)

Hi Thanks for yor reply. Same make and model MB is music to my ears. Not sure which way to go on this as it is an old system but good spec if I can breathe life back into it.

If I choose to buy a cheap refurb from ebay dell sonmthing running Win7 could i transfere my Old PCI tv tuner freeview card and get it working? I really just want the recording feature back. Ive salvaged my pics and music from my 1TB hardrive.

Just wondering if I should let go and not try to mend my pc at all?

What do you think?

So, just to clarify, your questions are:

1) If you buy/get your hands on a legit copy of Windows 7, will your current PC be compatible?
2) If you use your TV card with a Windows 7 system, will it still work?

or is the second question:

2) If I buy a old second-hand Windows 7 based PC from eBay, could I use my TV card in it?

Sorry just a little confused! haha

In any case, in order to answer any of the three, I'd need a complete spec list of your current system :)

Hi
Many thanks for taking the time to reply it's appreciated. Thats good news ref W7 compatability, so I have much more options now.

Gonna try replacing bulging capacitors on old Motherboard 1st
If that does not work have a itendical MB to try, plus option of getting W7 if Vista does not play nicely.

Cheers
