I have a questions about a Lenovo G780 laptop. I shorted it out in the dark one night inserting the power plug into the USB port. The USB port by the power plug had the plastic part come out, so the 4 pins were sticking straight out. I didn't think of the danger.

I likely plugged the power cord directly onto one of the USB pins.

The computer will not power up now. For a while it worked, but would not power off and was acting strange, but now the power light comes on for a second than goes off. I have read about USB shorts being fixed on motherboards. Or I could search for a new laptop motherboard.

I build lots of computers but have never replaced a laptop motherboard.

Thanks for any comments of advice you might have.

And now I came across the following motherboard on eBay.

QIWG7 LA-7983P Fit Lenovo Ideapad G780 laptop Motherboard Mainboard GT630M

Exactly what needs to match up? What model numbers should I look for? It sure looks like a good match for my computer. How do know for sure?

This is all new territory for me.

It would be so awesome to get some help with this.

Thanks

I read somewhere that there were some major differences in the same model number, like for GPU, etc.

But my board is not doing any good in the dead computer, so i might as well tear it apart.

I was hoping to find an identical model number on the board itself.

Never replaced a motherboard on a laptop before.
