Replace my older HP 2311x?

I have just ordered a Digital Storm Vanquish 5 with a i7 6700 processor, 16 G of Ram, and a NVIDEA 970 GTX GPU. I am a casual gamer and want to immerse myself in the graphics. I have a four year old HP 2311x 1920 x 1080 monitor with one HDMI. Will I be wasting a lot of my new graphics card's ability to provide rich graphics by using this old monitor? Please advise. I want to keep my investment to around $300.00 if I should replace the monitor.
