I had 4x8gb Crucial 2133 in my Dell XPS 8900. I wanted to repalce with 4x16GB 3200 which is what Dell and Crucial says works. I installed the first 2 16GB with 2 existing 8GB as I only received 2 at first. That worked fine.

The I went to replace the next 2 when I got them and system would not boot. I tried moving them around nothing worked. The I took out one of the 16GB I just added and put back 1 of my old 8GB and it worked. Tried switching the removed 16GB with the other new one and it still worked, so both stick are functionning, but not when installing them both.

I tried all the different slots, mix and match, no combinations works when I have the 4x16GB only 3x16GB and 1x8GB.

Not that advanced in computer parts replacement, but I followed all te rules I read about. Can anyone helped please!

I see what I did, I also have an XPS 8930, which works with the 3200 and I looked for both when searching for compatible RAM. I guess I can keep the 56GB (3x16GB 3200 and 1x8GB 2133) in my 8900 which works fine and use the other one in my 8930.

Thanks for making me realised my error.

It will have to run at the speed of the slowest RAM. Unless you actually need more than 32GB it will be better using 2x16GB @ 3200mhz which can also run in dual channel.
