Hey there guys, got an old laptop from a pal, just to do regular daily stuff. The laptop seemed ok, just the battery was kinda old (around 4 years old) and was lasting around 30-40 mins tops. So i decided to change the battery, and bought a real cheap replica, cuz replacing the original with an original battery would cost a lot more than i want to spend on a 4-5 years old laptop. The problem is the new battery lasts around 1 hour. I know the original battery lasted more than 3 hours at its prime and from what i read, the new replica one should last around 2 hours. The laptop kinda gets hot but nothing unbearable. (I opened the case and cleaned it, still gets hot but not as much.) What i would like to ask is: Is it the new battery itself thats faulty (or just in bad condition since that can be the case with Li-ion batteries) or could there be something about the laptop being old or something like that. Insight is much appreciated since if there happens to be a consensus that the battery itself is faulty, i will just replace it from the shop i bought.

tl;dr : Bought a replica li-ion battery for a 4-5 years old laptop, lasts around an hour although it is supposed to last more then 2 hours. Could it be related to laptop being old or some other reason not caused by the new battery, or is it solely the battery's fault ?

the laptop: asus X64JQ-JX051V
The original battery: Asus +10.8 V 4400mAh, 48Wh
The replica : Likky +11.1V 4400mAh, 49Wh

i know the values are not identical but from what i read i am under the impression that wouldnt cause a %50 less batterylife.

Thnx in advance for your time and thoughts.

well it was indeed cheap but from what i read from the customer reviews, maybe not 3 + hours like the original but a 2 hours lasting battery was expected. if you think that the laptop being old has nothing to do with diminished battery life, then i suppose i will just return the battery and get another one. normally i also would blame it on the cheap equipment but there is this concept of "dated" li-ion battery, since it ages over time and loses charge capacity.

One last question, does the Voltage and Wh value being a little higher than the original cause any serious problems or just the Amper values being identical covers it all?
thnx in advance

It is possible, that the laptop being used, could impact the battery life. But that is because installed software is using CPU/disk resources and not letting it achieve maximum energy savings. It is also possible that if you turn down the screen brightness a little you will improve your battery life. Screen brightness is the largest user of battery resources.
