Question Replaced thermal pads with thermal paste, now getting higher temps. Is this right?

I opened to clean my laptop and in the process also decided to change the thermal paste on the CPU. The CPU didn't have paste, it was padded, same for another chip which I presume to be the GPU. I didn't have pads so I used paste on both. They ran onto the copper tubing linked to the fan. Upon reassembly, I'm getting idle temps in the mid 60s and playing Youtube goes up to 70-75. I'm already on power saving and cannot undervolt (see https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads/no-options-to-in-advanced-tuning-for-intel-xtu.3712700/.) I think the temps are higher on the paste though I don't remember the exact figures before cleaning and when it was still on pads.

Are the higher temps a good sign that the paste is working for both chips and the heat is being dissipated despite the higher figures? Should I replace the paste with pads since both were padded before cleaning and pads (are intended in this case and) will work better for lower temps? I'd like to bring the paste temps down but I'm not sure how since I can't undervolt I don't have pads.

Depends on how thick the thermal pads were. If they were <0.5mm then it might just be the thermal paste application. If they were thicker then yeah, you're gonna need to buy the right sized thermal pads to replace it, you may not get contact with the cold plate without it.

When a heat sink covers more than one chip, pads are applied because no 2 chips are exactly same height and paste is not thick enough and even if it is, a thick paste is not as efficient.

both chips had a lot of paste to make sure that both would touch the copper heat sink/pipe/tube. if this is the case then should i remove the paste and go back to pads?

what i had in mind : replace paste with pads, get laptop stand, diy a 6cm fan to attach to the back directly on the slots for the copper heatsink

talked to dad about soldering the fan cables onto a usb cable when said he had a foldable laptop cooler lying around left by my aunt/unc. he doesn't have a laptop and they won't be back soon.

temp did not even reach 70 with youtube and 5 other tabs, idles from 60-65 and even high 50s. temps are good enough for me. :D
