Replacement board...start fresh or swap components no problem?

This is probably a pretty amateur question but I've got a board that isn't up to snuff so I ordered a replacement. It's the exact same board but the only difference would be the SN and MAC of the new board and it won't be updated.

The update is an easy fix...but I'm wondering if the difference in board SN or MAC will mess with my Windows install and updating and what not. Should I just start fresh and re-install windows? Literally the only thing on my M.2 is the OS and maybe a couple of programs that would be easy enough to re-install...just more of a pain in the ass to sit there and do it all again.

I feel like the RIGHT way is to do that, delete the partitions and start over with a clean install on the new board so I can activate Windows with it and update no problem, so I'm sure when it comes time to do the job this weekend I'll do it that way.

BUT

My curiosity has me asking if I actually NEED to?

Same exact hardware it shouldn't need a re-install. It will probably ask for a re-activation though. So make sure your license is transferable.

Yeah it's a digital license so I know it'll be good. I just have a little ISO thumb drive and skip the license key. When I am able to hit the net I just use my Microsoft account to link it to the license.

I was just curious about the different SN and MAC of the board causing a possible issue...but I suppose if that was true it would have never activated when I switched boards entirely to upgrade to a Kaby Lake.

Thanks!
