hi Daerkyl
you cant simply strap a standard 92mm fan on the card as stated in a previous answer... you better off with one of arctic coolings specific gpu replacement coolers ... and ive checked compatibility for the GTX550ti and the best cooler is the "Accelero Twin Turbo II"(
http://www.arctic.ac/en/p/cooling/vga/375/accelero-twin-turbo-ii.html ) ( see below )
the installation is easy enough.. simply remove the stock cooler by unscrewing the crosshead screws on the pcb and then gently removing the cooler assemebely .. then clean the old thermal compound with appropriate cleaning solution and then use a pencil eraser to clean the memory ( prior to ramsink installation )
then attach the memory ramsinks to all the memory and also to the vrm,s ( voltage regualtors ).. the latter is important as these get hot under operation and without proper cooling it can damage your card... finally attach the main cooler to the card using the supplied screws ( thermal compound is supplied however you can use any such as mx-2 )
ive used two arctic cooling gpu coolers including this one ( on a old XFX GTS250 ) and it reduced the idle temps by 17c and load temps were much improved .... however the ramsinks should be checked every so often to make sure they haven't fallen off
depending on the size of your GTX550ti you can also use the "Accelero Mono PLUS"(
http://www.arctic.ac/en/p/cooling/vga/455/accelero-mono-plus.html ) ( see below )
the installation for the Accelero Mono PLUS is exactly the same as the Accelero Twin Turbo II with the only difference being the size of the cooler ... theres plenty of ramsinks for the memory and vrm,s and if size is a issue then this may be worth considering .....
cooling performance isn't that much different to the Accelero Twin Turbo II,and the 92mm fan is extremely quiet, especially compared to some stock gpu fans
in summary both these replacement gpu coolers are extrememly good, however you should check the specs for your particular card since the Accelero Mono PLUS has a maximum cooling capability of 200w were as the Accelero Twin Turbo II,s maximum cooling is just 160w....
finally both cards require at least 3 slot width so make sure theres no expansion cards under the next 2 slots below the pci-express x16 bus .....
hope this helps
