Hi Guys,

Is there a best replacement for motherboard and tower with following specs ?
Motherboard: ASUS P7P55D , and tower that I am using is :
Tower: Cooler Master SGC-6000-KXN1-GP Storm Sniper ATX Mid Tower Case.

Both are exactly 10 years old, extremely reliable and still working very very well.

The purpose for upgrade:
To install VMware or ProxMox and install Guest OS on it.
Looking at:

Motherboard: Dual socket/cpu motherboard with support for MAX: 256GB or 512GB memory.

I don't know if my ATX mid-tower will support dual - cpu motherboard like low-power boards.

Any suggestions is appreciated.

Thanks,
Sands.

Respectable
Look for a single-cpu-solution.

Get a AMD-trx40-MB ( asus zenith II extreme alpha) and get 3960x ( 24 cores) or 3970x(32 cores). There exists an 3990x with 64 cores, but that would be an overkill.

I suppose, even the 3960x will be so much better than your 10 year old CPU. The 3970x will be a dream-cpu for you and will fully satisfy your requests.

Look for reviews, and you will see, what I mean.

Little hint: get new midi-tower , PSU etc.

Thanks for the info. I was looking at old workstations from DELL T7610, T7800 and really good specs with ultra affordable costs compared to brand new custom build PC workstations.

Wondering if the folks are considering power usage by PC workstations ?
Imagine a Custom Build PC / Gaming server / NAS server / Virtualization Server,

what would be power usage be for per month / per year to run it at home ?

Is there a place to lookup for such details ? For a 500W, 600W, 700W and so on, how much would it cost to run it ?
