Needing to buy a new psu to replace a Solytech AL-D500EXP/SL-8500BTX 500 W ATX12V power supply. Can't find the exact one anymore but we aren't techy enough to know which ones would work as a replacement (same cables, etc). Not sure if any other info is necessary - if so, I can add more.

Ok this is some of what I found. Does this cover what info is necessary? Also we're in southern Indiana, and budget is not too high (will be getting a better pc later, but for now this is what we've got - my son mostly uses it for YouTube and gaming and by us for general use).

  • Processor: Intel i7-9700F 8-Core 3.0 GHz (4.7 GHz Max Turbo)
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 6GB
  • Memory: 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4 2666MHz
  • Storage: 240GB SSD | 1TB HDD
  • Motherboard: B365M
  • Display Ports: 1x HDMI | 1x DisplayPort | 1x DVI

There's nothing special about that PSU, you can pick up any standard, off the shelf ATX12V PSU in your budget range, suggest a 650W.
Look at this list to compare quality.

Ok thx! We got a new psu, got it in and everything comes on again. Problem now is that the computer only turns on to the "uefi bios utility screen." Trying to figure out why. We initially tried bypassing it (goes right back to bios utility screen), we've restarted, unplugged and restarted, checked all cables and none of that worked. I do notice that there is nothing listed in the "boot priority" section. If I open that boot menu it says "The system cannot find any bootable devices." Is there something I can do to fix this? I've seen things about updating bios, doing something with installing Windows, or that it's possible that something got fried when the old psu quit - I'm just totally unsure of how to find the exact issue and solution to try (if that's even possible).

Did you reset CMOS/BIOS ?

Reset it to default? Yes, but it did nothing. Keeps going back to bios screen. I'm thinking the problem is that in bios in the boot priority section there is nothing listed - it's completely empty. And if you go into the boot menu it says "The system cannot find any bootable devices." Our psu fried so we got a new one. It's now allowing everything to turn on, but this is the problem we're having now (constant bios screen). I'm just not computer savvy enough to know how to isolate the problem. Thru Google I've seen things about the hard drive (we have a SSD as well) and I'm thinking those should show up in that boot menu, no? Or could it be a problem with the motherboard? Or something else entirely? I'm just not sure where to go from here to isolate where the problem is (or if I even can)...

Do you have any spare hard drives around anywhere to swap into the PC? The previous PSU was such horrifying garbage -- whatever company put that in the PC ought to be ashamed of themselves -- that there's certainly a chance it fried the drives on its way to Hamlet's undiscovered country. It's also worth noting what PSU you put in there; hopefully it's something better than the previous bit of nastiness, and if it isn't, it'd be ideal to replace it when you're still within your return window for it.

I don't, but I might be able to find someone who does. If I do tho, should I have them check the SSD as well as the HHD? (Sorry if this is a dumb question!)

Also if they are fried is it possible to get larger ones than the 1TB HDD and the 240GB SSD for our PC? Or is there something that would keep us from going larger.

Then the follow up to that would be, if we can go larger does the power supply need to be better than what we got, or is it ok? (We got this one https://www.bestbuy.com/site/therma...us-power-supply-black/6339087.p?skuId=6339087 )

Sorry for so many questions! I really appreciate everyone's help!

Those Thermaltake SMARTs are dirt-cheaply made. If you're still in the return window, I'd take advantage of that. With a 1660 Ti, you want at least a decent budget PSU for long-term safety, something like a Corsair CX 550. If you're going higher with the GPU, you might want to be more ambitious. How ambitious depends on what GPU you're thinking about.

Nevermind all. We are dummies. Apparently when my husband took apart the PC when we had the initial problem (pcu fried) - he swears he didn't do this - but somehow both SATA power cables unplugged from both the HDD and the SSD. I have no idea how it happened but he swears he didn't unplug them. So when we bought the new psu we strictly followed the old cables one at a time and replaced them with the matching new cables (because we are dumb when it comes to exactly what each cable does). Well since she old SATA cables weren't connected to anything we assumed they didn't go to anything. So this is all our dumbass fault. Sorry for the headaches and bothering you all, but I really appreciate those of you who tried to help! Everything is up and working now!
