When I first got RTCW, the techs recommeded I set r_ignorehwgamma to 0
because my screen is incredibly dark if I don't. However, now
Punkbuster seems to regard this as a cheat in most circumstance. I'll
tell that I don't get a very bright image regardless, but now I get
kicked off my favorite server because of the latest PB incarnation.

So is there anything else I can do to get the screen to a usable
brightness?

Hardware: Dell P4 with ATI 9600 card. It was also too dark with a
Radeon card I had in there until it overheated and died.

download powerstrip , it lets you adjust gamma from within games
using hotkeys.
