Hey guys,

I am currently using the Verizon G1100 router they gave me when they installed the network. I want a new router but am not sure what to get. My place is about 770 sq ft and only have my phone on the wifi as the pc and Apple TV are hard wired. I constantly have drops in wifi speed and also
am tired of this thing. I am wondering what would be a good replacement. Did some research and came up with the Asus RT-AC68U and the 86U. Any recommendations?

Of the two you have listed the RT-AC86U is the best. I currently have the RT-AC88U, the bigger version, and its great. The only advantage the 88U has is that it has a 4x4 for the 2.4 and 5GHz bands so it has insanely good coverage.

I would say the 86U is the best one to use.

What seems to be wrong with the G1100?

I have one, in a 2 story house twice the size of yours. Zero issues. No drops, no reboots, nada.

You can buy it direct from Verizon. I did. I got it for $100. They split it into 3, and added $33 to next 3 months bills.
As with all WiFi, positioning is the key.
