I have an old Dell Inspiron 8500 laptop. I realize that it's extremely old and obsolete, but I'm looking to get it set up as a second computer since it's the only other one I have that's in decent shape. I'm trying to get a replacement hard drive for it. The defective drive that I removed from my computer is a Hitachi Travelstar, model number HTS548060M9AT00, and is pictured here:

I have found replacement drives with the same model number, but they appear different on the end with the pins (i.e. http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/LuUAAOSwuzRXdnUS/s-l1600.jpg). On the replacement drive, there is some sort of black object to the sides of the pins, and the pins appear to stick out by themselves, rather than being attached to a board like on mine.

Will the drive in the third link work for my computer? If not, could someone please direct me to information on exactly what kind of replacement drive I need for my laptop?

Thanks!

That black part will slide out and connect to the new drive. That adapter is there to prevent end users from damaging the drive if replacing as those pins can easily bend or break

Thank you! I actually got a replacement drive prior to posting this that I thought was not the right kind since it didn't work (it didn't have that black adapter), but now I moved the adapter onto it and it works!
