I am looking for a replacement hard drive for my tower-case Dell Vostro 410, which is ten years old. The drive (running Windows 7) is still working ok but I never got around to keeping a spare.
It's a Western Digital 300Gb 7200 rpm internal hard drive, Serial ATA. I want to keep all the old computer hardware for putting a Linux distro on it (when Win 7 hits the rocks in 2020), rather than throw it all out; but while looking through adverts for hard drives, I see they talk about SATA 11 and SATA 111 connector types. My set-up hasn't got a SATA serial number, so I'm not sure whether its connectors will handle the new hard drives.I don't understand much about these things.
Not many 300Gb drives around either, so I'm guessing 500Gb will be ok.
Does anyone have any idea what might suit and where best to find one?
