Hi, first time posting on this forum, but i need answers.
I'm thinking of replacing my gpu (gtx 770 SLI) to a gtx 1080, but my cpu is kinda old, really old.
Still using the Intel i7 2700 (not the 'k' version), which is outdated af. I do realise i have to switch out my motherboard aswell if i'm changing the CPU.

Anyways, i'm asking all you tech guys for your opinion of which of these i should replace first, since i'm not as technical myself.

Since the 2700 is 2nd best of the lineup back then and considering moore's law,the 2700 is still quite respectable.Though it will be best to replace it,you can always add the 1080 first and chnage the cpu and motherboard later

Yeah i mean, the CPU is from 2011, which is really old. I'm gonna replace both eventually, simply asking which one i should prioritize first.
Heard a friend of my said that i will feel more of a difference ingame if i replace the GPU, is this true?

Just did some sums earlier for another person looking at SLI 770, should be roughly equivalent to a GTX 1070, so depending on your monitor resolution and desired frame rate, it may be reasonable to hold off on an upgrade. If you are just running 1080p@60hz you won't see much of an improvement.

i7-2700 is still a relevant gaming CPU. Probably want to look closely at Kaby Lake when it comes out though, just for the chipset features.

I agree though, buying the 1080 now won't hurt and you'll enjoy the power savings and new features for VR.

I got a ASUS VG248QE 24 144Hz monitor, so it's no too bad. But i wan't to be able to play most games maxed out and still getting at least 60 fps. Currently playing Battlefield 1 on Medium/Low graphics settings. I've seen some videos and articles, and it seems that the gtx1080 would run basically any game maxed out on 1920x1080p with stable fps over 60. Then again which is why i'm asking you guys, which one i should replace in order to run games better.

I suggest the 1070 as SLI 770's are weak and even at a 100% gain would only match a single 480. Stick with the 2700 and wait for cannon lake 6 cores later next year.

But wouldn't upgrading my graphics cards before the cpu create a bottleneck effect? For those who don't know what a bottlenecker effect is, check out this link http://www.thebottlenecker.com/

That's my concerne if i buy the gtx 1080 before the cpu. Iknow i'm a bit of a noob at this, which is why any suggestions would be appreciated :)

Current specs:

-Intel i7 2700
-Asus GTX 770 SLI
-HyperX Savage DDR3 2400MHz 16GB
-Asus Maximus V Formula 1155
-SSD 480GB
-HDD 3TB
-PSU Corsair AX860i
-Monitor ASUS VG248QE 144hz
-Cooler Master Storm Trooper (just to give you every detail 😉

To be honest i don't play with the graphics cards in SLI, cause it seems to be somehow making the game laggier, i have tried SLI on several games but it's no good. That's an issue for another thread tho..

most modern game utilize as much as four CPU core to handle instructions, the graphic engine utilize stream processors to handle video frames. In my dumb understanding, ice cream truck, the CPU is the truck delivering ice cream around the block while the GPU is how many guys serving ice cream.

Interesting. I never had SLI issues with the BF series. (580s, and then 980s) BF1 may be too new to have a proper SLI profile for 770s, but I wouldn't think that would matter.

Might be worth posting on EAs forums and seeing if anyone is in a similar situation.
