Replacement of my glorious HD4850

Hi Guys!

I'm here to ask for a little suggestion... I'm a little confused by the number of GPUs available on the market and I'm unable to decide whats better.

I'm actually running a desktop pc with a:
P5Q PRO motherboard (pcie 2.0)
Q9550 CPU
HD4850 GPU.

This used to be a fun computer back in 2009 when i used to play a lot more than now.

Since i switched to win 8.1 im unable to get the CCC running, drivers aren't working properly, opengl doesn't wont to run for some reasons, and the card doesnt support directx11 so i decided its time to replace it for something more recent.

Now, after boring you with the situation, lets get to the question.

What should i replace this GPU with, in your opinion?

keep in mind im not a big gamer anymore but i do some renderings, 3d cad and i do still play some of the good old games (i do not mind if the latest games will not run perfectly or at all, i dont plan on upgrading anything else). I still wish to get something recent that will give me a better perfomance, though, since i change it

i've been considering ati 7750, 7770, amd r7 250.

Budget is around 80-100 euros.

Check your CAD and rendering software to see if they will benefit from GPGPU processing, and if so, whether they favor AMD or nVidia, or support either one.
If AMD, a HD7770 / R7 250X / R7 260 would be good, if nVidia look at a GTX750Ti or GTX660.

With that budget you could buy a R7 260X which is much better than the GPUs you mentioned. With that GPU you'll be good for a good time, is very capable of FHD gaming low-mid settings depending on the game.

Well, the impression I had was that gaming was a low priority. If it is instead a "nice option," then the R7 260X is a stronger card if you find one within budget.

I give opinion based on gaming because is what i know more. I know not enough on GPGPU (CUDA or OpenCL).

I think i might stick with nvidia due to its capability of GPGPU, which i havent considered at all (im a noob)... since my gf makes often use of mathlab she might take benefits of the mathworks support of nvidia's cuda. Now a little question, among nvidia, is there any other option you feel like suggesting?

both of them run around 130euros, a bit higher than the budget i was going to invest...

yes, gaming isn't a big priority, i still appreciate being able to run some games but im happy of what the 4850 used to do before the 8.1 drivers issues, if i improve i wont complain for sure.

Then, if you care about CUDA and some gaming, maybe a GTX 750. It's a bit more expensive than the R7 260X and is also a bit more powerful, it's very energy efficient (doesn't require a big PSU) and I GUESS it has a good CUDA performance.

i also just realised that the actual monitor, a 22' 1920*1080 which is perfect otherwise, only has a RGB port available (its not so old so im suprised/let down), the dvi isnt there even if it should be... should i look for an adapter or find some kind of weird new gpu with old RGB exit?

RGB? As in the 3x RCA-type connectors? I've not seen those in a long time.

I should have said, correctly, a vga port... anyway, the point is my monitor looks like analogic only, its a samsung 2243sn

Oh, DVI-I to VGA adapters are commonly available. Many if not most video cards include one.
