I currently have a HDD installed with Windows 7 on it in my PC.

I would like to replace this HDD with a new one, and discard the old one and only keep the new one in my PC.

When I replace it, will I be able to use my Windows 7 again on it? I did a live chat with Microsoft and they said it would work, but I am a bit confused.

Could someone explain how exactly this would work?

Thanks

I wont be copying anything over to the new one, simply installing it and removing the old

Hi
You should copy the old windows files to new HDD to use it. Otherwise you need to install windows on new HDD. If you don't copy your files to new HDD , you have to install windows again or keep old HDD connected to your PC!

i would like a fresh install. But would this work already having windows on my old HDD. Could I connect my new one and re-use the CD? would this work?

Hi there Rtoder209,

Disconnect your old HDD. After that, you can connect the new one and install Windows on it.
Then, you can just attach your old HDD(either internally or externally with SATA to USB adapter + power source) as a secondary one and transfer the stuff that you want to keep.

So it will let me use Windows twice then? How does that work? Is it on my motherboard or something?

You are asking about Windows licence ?
I think you can active it again.
If Microsoft told you that you can , so you can!!
