I built my first desktop four years ago. It's a real bastard, but its a work horse and has lasted me well to today. However it's age is starting to show, given the mid range (at the time I built it that is) parts used starting to break under pressure running the latest games. I've been totally content running at lowest settings for increased frame rates but now even the lowest settings are struggling on newer titles. So I think its time to give this thing a face lift and replace the GPU to get a little more life out of it. (the CPU is pretty poor too i'm aware and may cause some bottleneck but it's much more of a hassle to replace so i'll get to that later)

I'm looking at getting a new Nvidia graphics card, somewhere around a 1050, I don't really need anything that beefy, just something that will work with current Gen games etc. and isn't too expensive (also preferably in Canada). If anyone has any good suggestions for a new graphics card upgrade around that description it would be greatly appreciated! (I find i'm spoiled for choice when im looking online and am not sure what to pick as i'm not really an expert)

My specs:
Windows 10 Pro
Cpu: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4570S CPU @ 2.90GHz, 2901 Mhz, 4 Core(s)
Gpu: Geforce GTX 660
Psu: X650M
Ram: 8GB

Mobo: Gigabyte Tech Co. Z87X-D3H (not sure if thats right)

Thank you for reading!

Not quite high, around 200-300 CAD
And yeah i've gotta get that replaced too soon, but thats a tad further out of my budget right now.

A GTX1060 3Gb would fit the bill, the 6Gb cards are a little over your max budget and don't do much the cheaper card can do as long as you keep the settings (particularly memory sapping ones like AA) down.
You'll see a very large improvement in gaming performance with just the GTX1060, making a CPU upgrade something you can do later on.
Be aware, you may need to update the motherboard BIOS for it to accept a faster CPU, if you're unsure, update it to the latest revision as soon as is convenient, you won't be able to update with an unsupported CPU.
And, also from The Department of The Very Obvious: A upgraded CPU will need to be sourced used, it's highly unlikely new parts of that vintage will be available, (and it's a fine vintage I must say 😉 ) so take a little time finding one, some want stupid money for these older parts and don't neglect searching for complete systems, it may be cheaper to purchase a full tower and strip it of useful parts than to over pay for just the CPU.
